I chose this project for my artifact because I feel it had the greatest significance of all of my projects we completed in this class. Well, let my clarify; it had the greatest significance for the greatest number of individuals, however, I feel that my personal narrative on diversity also written in this class is just as significant, but on an extremely personal level.
This project was also the first time that I used the survey machine, Survey Monkey, and I think that it could be a very powerful tool. The impact could be huge if you could get enough people to participate in your survey. Participation is the biggest limitation.
Basically, we wanted to know if students felt that their campus was diverse and if so, did they feel that the cultural programs available were effective in promoting cross-cultural awareness. Given the results of our survey, a few of our recommendations included: focus on the mission, better utilization of the advisory board, and to also offer more programs that expose students to other cultures.
During this group project, we were able to take this project from early conceptualization to being able to make recommendations based on our finding. These findings and recommendations could lead to changes in programs and policies or the initiation of new ones. It was very impressive and exciting!
I am looking forward to using a survey machine to ascertain exactly what our Sailors and Marines need to help them obtain a college degree.
